Parents Bill of Rights

JRB: Parents’ Bill of Rights

Parents have the right to:

a.     Review records relating to his or her minor child;
Please contact Ms. J. Williams to schedule an opportunity to review your child’s records. If your child has a case manager, please make the request with Ms. Williams and the Case Manager.

b.     Learn about his or her minor child's courses of study, including, but not limited to, parental access to instructional materials intended for use in the classroom. Such instructional materials will be made available for parental review during the first two weeks of each grading period, either online or on site upon a parent's request made during the review period.

CHES teachers readily provide teachers with insight on the standards covered via the agenda, class DOJO, google classroom and/or classroom newsletters. Please contact your child’s teacher at any time if you have questions or concerns.

c.     Object to instructional materials intended for use in his or her minor child's classroom or recommended by his or her minor child's teacher;
If you would like to object to instructional material intended for your minor child’s classroom or recommended by the teacher, please write a letter to Mrs. Davis with your child’s name, instructional material intended for use and your request to object.

d.     Withdraw his or her minor child from the school's prescribed course of study in sex education if the parent provides a written objection to his or her child's participation. Such procedures will provide for a parent to be notified in advance of such course content so that he or she may withdraw his or her minor child from the course.
Prior to the start of these units, teachers and counselors will send home a notification to inform you to opt-out of the instructional unit. However, at any given time, you may write a letter stating that you do not want your child to participate in the school’s prescribed course of study in sex education.

e.     Provide written notice that photographs or video or voice recordings of his or her minor child are not permitted, subject to applicable public safety and security exceptions.
As a part of the beginning of the year welcome back paperwork, parents are given the opportunity to opt out of photographs. However, at any given time, you may write a letter stating that you do not want your child to be photographed, videoed, or voiced recorded.
